# Step 9: HR & Payroll Setup

Set up the people, pay rules, and payroll configuration that turn logged time into paychecks. This lives in the HR & Payroll section of the sidebar.

  1. Employees - Your workforce roster — the anchor for everyone's pay setup.
  2. Pay Classifications - The kinds of work an hour can be (Laborer, Foreman, Travel, PTO…), each with its pay settings.
  3. Pay Rates - What each employee earns, by classification.
  4. Bill Rates - What you charge clients for an employee's time.
  5. Deductions - Benefits and garnishments withheld from pay.
  6. Tax Jurisdictions - The tax authorities and rates that drive withholdings.
  7. Overtime Rules - When premium pay (1.5×, 2×) applies.
  8. Prevailing Wage & Union - Required rate schedules for certified-payroll and union work.
  9. Holiday Calendars - Which days count as holidays.
  10. Pay Period Groups - How and when each set of employees is paid.
  11. Payroll Types & Payroll Providers - The kinds of pay run and the services you export to (ADP, Paychex, Paylocity).
  12. Commissions & Reimbursements - Sales commissions and expense repayments that attach to a payroll run.

Once these are configured, run pay in Payroll — the Control Center walks each run from review to posted.
