Unit of Measures

Units of Measure (UoM) define how quantities are counted and tracked throughout include GO — for example, Each, Hour, Gallon, or Square Foot. Every resource in your catalog is assigned a unit of measure, which appears on estimates, purchase orders, invoices, and reports.


Where to Find Units of Measure

Navigate to Settings → Business Unit Settings → Unit of Measures tab.

What you see on this screen

# Element Description
1 Settings Sidebar The left sidebar groups all Business Unit Settings. Unit of Measures is highlighted under Financial Setup.
2 Page Header Confirms you are on Unit of Measures.
3 Add Unit Opens the creation dialog.
4 Search Bar Filter units by name or code.
5 Column Headers Sort and filter by any column.

Creating a Unit of Measure

Click + Add Unit to open the dialog.

Form Fields

# Field Required Description
1 Name Yes The full name of the unit (e.g., Each, Gallon, Pound). Max 50 characters.
2 Code Yes A short uppercase abbreviation (e.g., EA, GAL, LB). Max 10 characters. Auto-uppercased.
3 Notes No Optional context about how and when to use this unit, or conversion notes.

Common Units to Set Up

Each EA Individual items with no sub-units
Hour HR Labour time billing
Square Foot SQFT Area-based materials
Gallon GAL Liquid materials
Pound LB Weight-based materials
Linear Foot LF Length-based materials
Bag BAG Bagged bulk materials (mulch, soil, etc.)

Editing a Unit of Measure

Click the pencil icon in the Actions column. Make your changes and click Update Unit.

Note: Changing a unit's Name or Code updates it across all resources already assigned that unit.


Deleting a Unit of Measure

Click the trash icon in the Actions column. If the unit is assigned to any resources, the system will prevent deletion to protect data integrity.


Tips & Best Practices

  • Set up all units your business commonly uses before building your resource catalog — resources require a unit of measure.
  • Keep Codes short and intuitive — they appear in compact table views and on printed documents.
  • Use Notes to document conversion factors (e.g., 1 bag = 2 cubic feet) for your team's reference.
